2014 is not a good year to be a teenage girl. The last of the 90’s kids are growing up and we are starting to see the effects of being raised with the Internet. For generations before us, hormonal teenage boys looking for sexy images of women had limited options; they could brave the embarrassment of going to the counter and buying Playboy, they could look through their sister’s Cosmo or they could use their imagination. Porn today has rid itself of the embarrassment-factor by embracing the anonymity of the World Wide Web; Playboy isn’t really considered to be porn anymore, the real stuff lives in your phone, on your laptop, your tablet; it is available anywhere, anytime at the touch of a button. In fact this very website receives a steady stream of hits that result from someone googling some combination of ‘housekeeping porn’ + ‘sex’, ‘lesbian’ and/or ‘rape’. As you read this, somewhere there is an eleven-year-old boy curiously typing ‘porn’ into Google, probably hoping to see some big boobies. Fast forward a couple of years and he is masturbating to a video of a crying woman who is being tied down, simultaneously penetrated by three men, spanked, and being called a whore. Young boys are being de-sensitized to violence and the more they consume, the more abusive, the more graphic the porn has to be to excite them. - Clara Bennathan (via fleurlungs)

Glamour UK: What do you get riled up about in a feminist context?
Gillian Anderson: A lot. I have feminist bones and when I hear things or see people react to women in certain ways I have very little tolerance.
Glamour UK: But don't you feel sorry for modern men? Not knowing whether they should help us with our bags and open doors for us or whether we'll see it as an affront?
Gillian Anderson: No. I don't feel sorry for men.

the whole phrasing of “slut shaming” really skeeves me out cuz u dont get to call a girl a slutty cuz u feel like shes slutty, ya know?? its just another form of policing. sure she can call herself that. you can call yourself slutty too. but maybe to her she doesnt view her…

Radical feminists: the sex industry is dangerous to women!
Sex workers: I experience these dangers and also depend on my job to support myself, so will you support me in making my working conditions safer?
Radical feminists: the sex industry results in human trafficking!
Sex workers: actually, sex trafficking statistics are confused with trafficking statistics for domestic labor and often include voluntary sex workers such as migrant workers.
Radical feminists: the sex industry causes rape!
Sex workers: we're at risk of violence due to stigma surrounding our work that results in an inability to report that basically allows rapists to target us without giving us any recourse.
Radical feminists: we need to shut down the sex industry to protect these women!
Sex workers: forcing us out of our jobs is just going to force us into poverty though, why don't you listen to us and help us make our work safer?
Radical feminists: false consciousness! handmaidens of the patriarchy!
Sex workers: I thought you wanted to help us?
Radical feminists: fuck you for selling out women! You deserve what you get! Throwing women under the bus!
Sex workers: . . .
Radical feminists: I only care about trafficked women!
Sex trafficking survivors: criminalization actually makes things worse for us by contributing to stigma, statist violence and limiting our ability to access support through peer-based organizations and other workers
Radical feminists: abolish the sex industry!
Sex workers and trafficking survivors: . . .
